Root Canal is performed when the nerve of a tooth is hurting due to decay or infection. In order for the dentist to save the tooth, the pulp, bacteria, nerves, and any decay is removed. The resulting space is then filled with a special medicated, dental material, which restores the tooth to it normal everyday function. Root Canal treatments are very successful procedures and in most cases, last a lifetime. However, sometimes, a tooth will have to be retreated due to new infections.
